I recently had a client come to me for personal training and nutrition. We'll call her Angie. She has three kids, the youngest being around 9 months, and is looking to get back into shape. While Angie is very active during the day with her children, she wants to tone up and lose what's left of her pregnancy weight.
When I start with a new client, I first try to identify their goals and barriers. Angie's biggest barrier to a set exercise routine is time. Due to her family schedule with tons of activities for the kids she needs something quick that she can do almost anywhere. This is where my love for bodyweight exercises comes in. Body weight exercises can literally be done anywhere and are some of the best movements to increase muscle tone.
Before I give my client a new training plan, I like to give it a whirl myself to make sure that everything flows and can be performed by my client. The plan I followed was this one.

The exercises took ~35-45 minutes to complete (I didn't have my watch with me so i'm unsure of the exact time). Knowing that Angie does have a previous history of knee pain, I plan to change and spread out some of the jumping exercises to prevent overuse and injury. I'll also modify the step ups to get rid of the free weight curl requirement.
Overall, this workout was a great way to get my heart pumping and muscles working. Hopefully, a training plan similar to this will fit into Angie's busy schedule and get her excited about improving her fitness!
After my practice training session, a bunch of us headed to the last Thursday night baseball game of the season. The Greenville Drive is our local minor league baseball team. We donned our Drive gear and enjoyed the beautiful night...even though the game wasn't as beautiful.

We even got a trolley ride added to the mix. Happy Friday!
