Spring has sprung in South Carolina and I can't wait to officially mark the coming of Spring this Sunday. Spring is always a great time for outdoor activities and these articles discuss why! Let's find out what happened in the news this week:
1. Find Happiness in Nature- Research shows that people who spend time in natural spaces, tend to be happier and healthier than those who don't. A new study even showed that seeing pictures of nature may help to decrease stress levels. You might rethink your treadmill run this weekend and head out for a hike instead!
2. 5 Tips to Improve Health- Remember its National Nutrition Month and this article is from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. These are a few easy ways to make tweaks to your diet and improve overall wellbeing.
3. Meditation and Running- A new study shows that meditation plus running may help to decrease the effects of depression. Many studies have shown that both of these exercises separately can help to improve depression, but doing one directly following the other may actually improve how we view and carryout the exercises. Can't hurt to give it a try!
4. Individualized Gatorade- Gatorade has created a 'smart-cap' design that with a patch can determine the best form of hydration or recovery for a specific athlete based on sweat, hydration and electrolyte levels. This is a neat development for our athletes, but still must be used in the proper way to ensure necessary replenishment.
