Exciting news came Monday when Kraft officially announced that some big changes will be taking place in the making of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. Starting in January 2016, all artificial preservatives and synthetic colors will be removed from the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese product.
This is very exciting as we are in a season where people are searching for less processed foods and eliminating unnecessary additives from food. The company states that it took them so long to make the changes in order to determine a way to produce a product that still tastes the same without the artificial ingredients. The plan is to use natural sources such as, tumeric, paprika and annatto to give the same color and flavor that we all love.
Read more about these changes here.
Now, don’t be totally fooled. Removing artificial colors and preservatives is a step in the right direction, but that doesn’t mean that mac n’ cheese becomes a healthy food. Making this dish at home would still increase the nutritional value rather than out of a box. Using this dish as an occasional meal rather than a staple will save yourself added calories and fats. Adding vegetables to the mix will also improve the nutrient level of this dish!
