I’m always looking for new recipes and new ways to recreate old recipes. As I was moving things around my pantry the other night, I noticed a kitchen tool that one of my friends had given me a few years ago. It was still in its nice packaging because I had yet to use it! Does anyone know what this is called?
That’s right! It’s a spiralizer. For those of you who don’t know what a spiralizer is, it is a tool that cuts fresh veggies into faux-like noodles and fun spiral shapes.
I figured that I might as well give it a try. The next day I picked up a few zucchini at the store and got going.

The tool was quite easy to use and created beautiful, long strands. After the zucchini was all cut, I flash sautéed it in a pan with a little bit of olive oil. You don’t want to cook the strands too long as they will get mushy and watery.
I prepared an easy ground turkey tomato sauce and the simplest dinner ever was created.

So, I know the real question is how it tasted. I won’t lie to you and say that it tasted exactly like pasta, because it didn’t. However, zucchini alone has such a mild taste that I was really able to taste the spaghetti sauce and wasn’t overpowered with the zucchini flavor. The other perk is that I wasn’t overly stuffed after eating my faux-spaghetti, which I usually am after eating pasta.
An A+ in my book for ease and nutrition! Not only a great option for those carb-conscious individuals (there are only 10g of carbohydrates in one large zucchini), but anyone who is looking to try something new and incorporate more vegetables into their life.
I can’t wait to try my new/old spiralizer with other vegetables!
