It's been a bit since my last post, but many exciting things have been happening in my world. This weekend I went home to visit my sister because my nephew was born last week! He is obviously adorable and perfect already. While up at home I also got the chance to spend some quality time with my seven month old nephew who again is adorable and perfect. Two nephews in the span of one year sure is an awesome blessing.
The other exciting news about my trip home was that I got a bike! I have recently gotten into riding a bit, but I have been renting a bike since I didn't own one. The man-friend and I had been looking for bikes to buy on Greenville craigslist, but figured that since we were going to be in DC there might be more options. Lo and behold, I found something that I liked in my price range without too much fixing necessary.
Now, since i'm not a hardcore cyclist, I felt no need to buy an expensive new bike. I plan on using this bike some for exercise, but not more than 1-2x/week. However, we definitely put in some effort researching good brands and luckily my mom and bf are pretty well versed in cycling jargon. I ended up buying a Giant bike in fairly decent condition.
The next step was to add/change/modify the different components to my liking. A trip to the bike store was a must. I bought a new seat, pedals, water bottle cages and a frame bag. Not too expensive and definitely made some nice upgrades.

Now, to brag on the boyfriend a little bit: We noticed that the chain had been hitting the frame of the bike (which it normally does on any bike) and had caused some damage/markings. His bike has a lizard case (chainstay protector), which covers this spot on the frame and protects it. However, he remembered seeing a video on YouTube that used an old tire tube to do the exact same thing. The engineer got to work and I must say it looks pretty cool.

Overall, i'm really happy with my purchases and can't wait to get out on my bike. I do plan to take it in for a tune-up this week just to make sure everything is working smoothly. Hopefully, i'll have updates on my riding adventures soon!
