This weekend we had the fun experience of going to Savannah, GA. Neither the boy or I had ever been, so we figured why not! Savannah is about 4 hours from Greenville, so we started the trek early Saturday morning.
Once we arrived in Savannah, our first stop was the Visitor's Center. We had done some research about what spots we needed to hit while we were in town, but wanted to make sure we got the full Savannah experience. We decided to take our own walking tour of the city and started at Forsyth Park. We walked up toward the river and stopped at Chippewa Square. This is the square where the famous Forrest Gump-Box of Chocolates scene is filmed when Forrest is waiting for the bus.

The square was busy so these lovely people got to be a part of my picture! We continued walking up, stopping at different squares and monuments and taking in all the historic houses. One of the most beautiful things about Savannah is the Spanish Moss. Spanish Moss is a plant that grows on many of the Southern Live Oaks that Savannah is famous for. It creates a beautiful tunnel like effect!
We made our way up to the River Walk where we took in the views of the Savannah River and ate a quick lunch.
After lunch was obviously dessert! We made our way to Leopold's, which is known for the "5th best ice cream in the World". The Chewie Chocolate Cookie and Pecan ice cream definitely made it up there on my list!
*Side note: We also got to walk by many many SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) buildings as you can see in the picture above. We heard that SCAD has helped to revitalize over 100 buildings in the Savannah area!
We walked to City Market where we were able to enjoy tons of little shops and music. We wandered into Savannah's Candy Kitchen and even got to see pralines getting made. Pretty neat, but you definitely don't want to know what goes into them ;)

We finished our walking tour by going to The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, a Roman Catholic Cathedral from the late 1700s. It was a gorgeous church and a wonderful opportunity.
We hopped back in our car and made a quick pit stop at Wormsloe Historic Site. We didn't do a tour, but the trees were incredible! They might be my favorite part about the whole trip!
Our trip finished up with a Savannah Sand Gnats game and a quick walk on Tybee Island Beach on Sunday morning.
A wonderful weekend and a great place to visit. I can't wait to go back again soon!
Happy Monday!
